Established in 1984, Hearing Care Professionals, Inc. has stood the test of time and provided trusted hearing healthcare to our patients for 40 years. Our hearing healthcare program includes comprehensive hearing evaluations, specialized diagnostic assessments, and hearing aid prescribing and fitting. In addition, equally important is the support, counseling, and service of the hearing aids after fitting, ensuring the best possible hearing, achieving maximum benefit, and improving the quality of your life.

Our Staff

Dr. Patrick Coughlin - Audiologist, AuD, CCC-A

Audiologist Patrick Coughlin founded Hearing Care Professionals in 1984 and provides audiology services related to hearing and hearing loss. He performs comprehensive diagnostic audiological testing in the Aberdeen office as a private practice audiologist and a Care in the Community provider for the VA. In addition to comprehensive diagnostic hearing evaluations, his services include hearing aid prescribing and fitting, physician referrals, and industrial testing.


Dr. Coughlin obtained his doctorate from Pennsylvania College of Optometry/Salus University and the George Osborne College of Audiology after earning his master's degree in audiology from Minot State in North Dakota. He has been practicing audiology for more than 40 years.

Dr. Coughlin and his wife, Ruth, reside in rural Aberdeen. His daughter, Heather, works with him in the office. His son and family live in Cincinnati, OH, and his daughter and her family live in Wimberly, TX. We would be remiss, not to mention his six cats, all rescued.

Heather DOHMAN - Hearing Consultant/Licensed Dispenser

Heather joined her parents at Hearing Care Professionals and has worked as a hearing consultant and licensed dispenser for 15 years, initially traveling to outreach clinics. She is now dedicated full-time to the patients in the Aberdeen office. 

Her expertise in the personalization of today's hearing aids for each patient's lifestyle, her caring nature, and her love of people are evident in every patient she sees. Listening to you and making a difference in your life is what she enjoys most about her work.

Heather is responsible for the daily management of the business and is committed to long-term operations and service to all patients. 

Heather is a life-long resident of Aberdeen, attended Northern State University, and is the proud mother of three children, Alek, Jaeden and Emily.

Ruth Coughlin - Hearing Consultant/Licensed Dispenser

Ruth provides hearing health care services as a licensed hearing aid dispenser in the office. In addition, she coordinates VA appointments and assists in insurance processing.

Ruth earned her Bachelor's Degree in Business Education from Northern State University in Aberdeen. She has more than 30 years of experience dispensing hearing aids.

She, and her husband Patrick, reside near Aberdeen. Their daughter, Heather, works alongside them at Hearing Care Professionals. Their son, Brendan, and his family live in Cincinnati, OH.

Ruth takes great pride in her five grandchildren: Alek, Jaeden, Emily Brynn, Riley, and Hailey. All claim to be Grandma's favorite. And they are correct!

Kara Pies - Hearing Consultant/Licensed Dispenser

Kara joined the team at Hearing Care Professionals in the spring of 2019. She has six years of experience as a licensed hearing aid dispenser and earned her National Board Certification in Hearing Instrument Sciences before joining the staff at Hearing Care Professionals. Kara provides hearing health services in the Aberdeen office and area nursing homes, assisted living, and retirement facilities.

Kara's passion for people and ensuring every patient receives the best possible results from their hearing aids makes her work enjoyable and rewarding.

She resides in Aberdeen with her husband, Dean, and their daughters, Linnea and Caitlyn.
